What was the worst accidents you had when you were a kid?
I was always in the emergency room when I was a kid, I think my mom bought a seasons tickets each year for me, anyway I was there a lot... Several times I had to check if my mom had turned on the stove before making dinner... she usually had... One time I was playing with my Legos and put one piece into my nose.. very far and had to spend 4 hours in the emergency room with a bleeding nose... the funny part is that on our way home me and my (nervewrecked) mom met my aunt and my cousin who is the same age as me, they were going to the same emergency room because my cousin had put a houseplantleaf into his ear to show his sister a magic trick Then one time when I was about 5 I was playing with a neighbors girl same age and she found a construction Iron rod... she asked what to do with and me in my wisdom told her to throw it into a nearby window... but didn't realise I was standing next to the damn window... and she of course threw it... and I got it right in the face... One day when I was about 10 I acctually had 3 accidents in one day... in the morning I was at a football practice as a goalie and a guy shot the ball as fast as he could and it hit me square in the ear... then around dinnertime it was time to check the stove, yeps it was on  , and then I went out to play football again and had a collision with one of the guys and broke a tooth... not a good day for me... Amazingly enough I never broke a bone, not until I was 18 at a karate practice and managed to break my knee in a fight. So what was yours? |
Hmm...
Well i was out playing and suddenly a swing hit my head at high speed and break my tooth. But that was loooong ago. |
When I was about 5, in daycare, we were out at recess, all taking turns climbing up onto this folding table & jumping off (seemed like a good idea at the time). When my turn came, I wanted to jump further than anybody else, so I flapped my arms real fast to help stay airborne (hey, it works in the cartoons). I landed on my right arm, and shattered my elbow, breaking all 3 bones in my arm. My forearm & hand had rotated 360 degrees. Helpful hint: a magazine rolled around your arm & held with big rubber bands makes a good splint. The E.R. Dr. that looked at me thought there was too much damage, and recommended they amputate. Lucky for me, there was a pediatric bone specialist visiting a clinic nearby, and he came in for a consultation. I had no feeling in my hand (they worried about nerve damage), but since it was still warm, that meant I still had circulation. The visiting Dr. suggested they put steel pins in my arm to hold the bones in place & wait and see. THANK YOU DR. LIPINSKI, WHEREVER YOU ARE ! ! ! It took a year for the feeling in my hand to return, but today there's nothing but a big scar inside my elbow to show that it ever happened.
On the bright side, I wore a cast for several months. Towards the end, I DOMINATED in tetherball... |
I went fishing with my father when I was 6 or 7 and stuck a fishhook through my scalp. The ER doctor had to push it through, cut the barb off, and pull it out.
The worst, though, was a friend I knew in 5th grade. He broke into the college gym and was jumping on the trampoline. A pin came loose, and it folded on him -- killing him. :( |
When I was five, I was playing around in the sitting room, making a fort out of VHS cassette tapes. All of a sudden I rolled backwards a bit, and my hip came into contact with a clothes iron, which my mother had (pretty stupidly, if you ask me) just set down there. I had an iron print on my hip right up til the mid nineties - the burn-marks lasted nearly ten years.

umm let me see, where to start.....
once, when I was 7, we were plying hide and seek, in the woods, I forgot about a hiden barb wire fence, and tripped over it, splitting my leg open, had to have a lot of stitches, I broke a bunch of bones, lost count on how many, another time, i think I was 6 we were building a club house, I was on top of it, hammering a nail into the tree, when it fell, I wound up hanging from the nail I had just put in the tree...by my wrist..more stitches again, when I was 11, another barb wire fence, same game, different place on leg, same results. also when I was 11, got mad at my parents, cuz they were going out drinking again, so I threw something down a hill, then decided I could jump to the bottm to get it, and landed head first on..yep you guessed it, a barb wire fence :D then my mom slapped me, because I was freaking out, and would not let her touch it, they thought I had lost my eye, the scar is right above my left eye. should I keep going? :D I lived in the hospital, last time I saw my childhood medical records, they had to use 4 folders, filled to over flowing, each one came to about the size of an encyclopidea book. My dad used to say if i was a horse, he would have to put me down :D I have had more stitches and staples in me, than a normal child should have had ;) |
Used to keep on getting into fights, been kicked in the face, and when I was about three or four I ran into the bathroom and cut my head open on the toilet seat. I still have the scar about ten years on, and it's faded about as much as it ever will, yet people still comment on it.

To my memory, I've only had one really bad accident as a child.
I was 8 I think, maybe 7, but we used to have this couch down here were the computer was, and it was my favorite place to sit and watch my bro play his computer games. One chilly fall morning I was sitting on the arm on the couch in one of those long PJ shirts...so I had my arms and legs tucked in to keep warm. Well, I started to lose my balance, and I couldn't get my arms out of my shirt to stop me, so I tipped over-face first into the edge of the computer desk I cut a nice deep gash in my cheek, right below my left eye, and across the bridge of my nose. I was lying on the ground screaming for about a minute (my brother didnt even turn around!) until my parents came flying down the stairs. They took me to the local doctor and i ended up getting 21 stitches total i think. I still got narely scars on my nose and below my eye :D ya i think thats pretty much it. I did lose part of my tooth snowboarding last year, but 17 isnt exactly a kid. I cried like a baby too, but mostly cause i had lost my tooth, not because it hurt, hehe :D |
Hmmm... when I was eight, I got run over by a van. Tires went over my back just above my hip, and supposedly I was a half-inch from having my spine crushed or my hips crushed. And apparently part of the next week in the hospital was spent debating whether I did indeed have internal bleeding and need surgery or not.
No internal bleeding, no extra surgery, no paralysis... just lots of comic books from all my family. Many years later, I was out with some friends having a good time . I told them to pull over because I had to take care of *ahem* business. As I was standing next to the tree, they took off down the street a couple hundred yards, then stopped. I finished, stepped back into the street, and they came flying back in reverse. At the last minute, I realized they weren't going to stop and jumped onto the trunk of the car to roll over the side. I knew immediately (even through a drunken stupor) that I had done something to my finger. Turned out the next morning at the ER that I broke it. Did I mention I had a drum competition that afternoon? Yep. Splint and all, I showed up, played with a traditional grip, and won. Last time I jumped on a moving car while drunk, let me tell you... :D |
When I was 9 I got into a fight with my little brother (he was 7). During the fight he decided to use whatever means was handy to will the fight. It turned out a paint scrapper was near so he used that on my head.
A ton of stitches later, I can actually say I know what it is like to be scalped. |
