Anyone seen this before - I've just got to Minsc , and he muttered something about "Boo not liking the tone of my voice" or something , and now won't initiate dialogue with anyone in my party ??! Does anyone have any ideas to get him into the Party ?

Thanks !! Callan.

<font color="cyan">A couple of educated guesses here:

1.Your charisma is too low.
2. You are Chaotic Evil

1 I think is the real reason, 2 is just a possibility.

Minsc is a goody-2-shoes ranger. If you are evil or if your reputation is too low he may respond like that.

I think Ace hit on it when he mentioned reputation. Depending on your rep, characters of different alignments will react differently. For instance, if your rep is above 18 evil characters often won't offer to join your party. My guess is that you have a low rep. I would say go to the temple in Nashkel and raise your rep a few points through doations and then try talking to him again...

Of course a rodent eating cat familiar could also piss him off, that, one of the above or possibly a wrong dialogue response to him.

But still Kormar when you meet Minsc the REP shouldn't be that high. He is in chapter 2 after all. Mine usually is about 14 at that time as I like going to Nashkel fast.

Perhaps is is the alignment that is the prob?

Thanks for all the replies !!

My main character is a chaotic good figher , and I have Imoen , Jaheira , Khalid , Garrick and Branwen at the moment. Party's rep is heroic , but my main character's charisma is only 5 (I figured who cares if he's unlikeable , with that sort of strength and constitution the party'll love him for saving their asses all time ..)

I'm wondering if casting Friends on my main character would help raise the constitution high enough to get Minsc over his little fit ?

Cheers !
Allan.

Well, then the low charisma of your pc is probably the problem: try making Jaheira (rep. 15) your party leader (drag & drop her portrait in the side column to the top) and then having her initiate the dialogue with Minsc. It might be best going back to a save before the first attempt to initiate dialogue with Minsc, as it is possible that the game engine otherwise will "remember" your previous failed attempts and that Minsc will keep turning you down. But I am not certain about that, so if going back to an earlier save was a major inconvenience you might as well try it first just with a change of party leaders.

Note 1: the charisma for your party leader is very important: a) for the reactions of npcs outside your party to your party when interacting (see above)

b) for the battle morale within your party: if your party leader has got a high charisma your party members are less likely to panic when a battle turns out to be very taxing.

Note 2: your notion that you want to win the respect of your party members through your deeds rather than through your stats is one I can really sympathize with, but I am afraid it is also one that is asking way too much of the game engine/ A.I. ! Remember computers are mere number-crunchers, their "social intelligence" is zero ....

Good luck and have fun ! http://www.tgeweb.com/cgi-bin/ubb/no...iles/smile.gif
