ok so i have an old laptop, win 3.11 and i just wanted to try it out
on the net. I downloaded opera3.6x and trumpet winsock and then put
them onto a disk and put them onto that comp. I connected fine using
trumpet but then when I type in an address using opera It said "Network
Problem" I tried multiple times and it said the same thing. Can
someone please help me. It might be something to do with my network
settings. Any help is greatly appreciated.

First things first... make sure all the dust is blown off of it. :D

Second, cover the basics. Do you have a network card on there? Is it configured and recognizable? Can you do things from the DOS level (ping, tracert)?

It's been a long, long time since I've seen W4WG. I know it works, because I used to use it (albeit with a dial-up connection).

Yeh ive tried a ping and it didnt work. I dont know about the network card but I when i try and setup the network thing it asks for the disks but I dont have them.

Does anyone else know what to do?

Hmmmm.... upgrade to Win95 or Win98?

I'm pretty sure you're stuck without the disks. I don't even know where mine are anymore... I've got several stacks of floppies, but I don't recall seeing those for a while.

Sorry... :(

I guess you need the drivers as Bungleau said. Try the Windows 3.11 TCP/IP update if you haven't done so already, if you can't get winsock to work that is(I believe you have to add some lines to your autoexec.bat when using winsock). You can probably google for drivers if you know what ethernet card you are using.

Here are some network drivers for Windows 3.11.

ok i think i may have found the problem. When i connect through trumpet it connects but then says no carrier wave at the bottom. Does that help anyone?

No carrier wave means that the modem isn't getting a signal from the ISP. As for why that would be, I have no idea.
