I put in debug mode=1 and when i go to the game and push ctrl+space it only pauses the game. how do i get the control box up?

Welcome to the forums! I'm not sure if there are any cheats for BG1... what your describing is the process for cheats in BG2. I don't think I have ever seen cheats for BG1, at least, I have never used any.

there are cheats for BGI, but I can't remember how to get them to work. I will let you know if I remember, ok?

In BG one you use Ctrl+Tab. You also don't enter Debug into you ini file. You type Cheats=1 under Game Options. Then when you hit Ctrl+tab you get the cheats console. The complete instructions can be found here...

What you should type should look something like this:
[Program Options]
Volume Music=40

[Game Options]
Cheats=1
Memory Access=100
Footsteps=1
Weather=1
Mouse Scroll Speed=28

The Cheats=1 is the code you put in, then hit Ctrl and Tab to enable the cheat function...
