I have killed Dermin (I think that was his name) and I've been waiting around to see ...can't remember who, I think Elminster...to get the Harper Pin. How long does it take to encounter the man with the pin from the time you kill Dermin and where will you encounter him?
Thank you in advance!! |
a) It's "Terminsel."
b) You need to be in the Jahiera romance.. I'm PRETTY sure.. Though if you killed Dermin, you must be in it, so never mind. It's VERY buggy.. I only managed to get it once, he showed up about a game week later, though that was only about one or two of our days. |
Everytime I did the Jaheira romance I always ended it on chapter 6 to avoid any bugs. If your romance ended as it should, and you've progressed to level 2 Terminsel (Elminster) should appear about an hour after you finish the romance (have to be outside). He'll give you the Harper pin only if you have a reputation of about 10+.

I think it's great that Jahiera gets a Harper pin... but she should have had it looong ago. From what I've gathered she has been with the Harpers a loooong time, and EVERY member gets a pin when they're accepted. Not having a pin means you're not a Harper yet, or only giving them lip service. But she had a *TEACHER* when she was YOUNG. One would think she would be high up in the chain of command by now, but by the looks of what happened with Galvarey you would think she's just some newbie.. It would seem that nobody would question her actions, her being who she is.

That's odd--I'd always thought of Jaheira as being only about 50 years old or so, as she was a child during the Tethyrian Civil War, which wasn't that long ago. What's the life expectancy for Half-Elves anyway?
In the bunch of NPCs I'm designing is a Half-Elf....somewhere down the line, Jaheira asks him if he's ever considered becoming a Harper, and is mildly surprised to find out that he already was one. |

"been there done that"
I played bg soa 2 for 5 times now with jaheira by my side. you dont really have to have a relationship with her to have the harper's pin, you can have it randomly (what i mean is the time and place)and it takes about 1 week or a month before the guy shows off. try to keep her in the party because she really is a good ally speacially with her ressurecting and healing ability (you need that thoughout the game). enjoy!!!! ahh, but what does the players handbook say the starting age for a 1/2 elf is, IIRC it's around 25-30, as opposed to an elf who starts his career around 115 years of age, or a dwarf who's typically 50-60 years old, or even a gnome who could be upwards of 80 years (and yet the PC is 20 when BG1 starts, I always found it interesting, must be a "growth spurt" from the Bhaalspawn, or some other ridiculousness ( I always found it Laughable that Imoen was always the same age as the PC no matter the PC's race.
