What is the best I can do on ability scores during character creation without a cheat? I am patient and I will roll for a long time if necessary to get the best outcome.

Assuming a Human character? 18 in all, but you will have an easier time striking the lottery. A total of 85 points is considered godly already, 80 is more realistic.

It also depends on what kind of character you want.

Just to let you know, I have had a roll of 91 total points before (no cheating), so that is possible, but certainly not probable.

High would be somewhere in the 80's range.

Ive gotten a 98 after hours of rolling, and rerolling, and rerolling....

The most I've gotten, is 86, I think. Came up on the sixth roll.

I've actually rolled a 97 once. On the 2nd Reroll, no less. She was a Paladin, of course. "Yeah, I think I'll be satisfied with that."

Got a 96 on a Half-Elven Conjurer, too, but that was after rolling & rolling & rolling.....

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Last night I rolled for about 5 minutes, came up with a 97 including 18/96 strength! Then I hit back instead of done and lost it!!!!!

I rolled another two hours and got a 97 again, this time with an 18/44 strength. I hate the fact that I lost the 1st 97.

Anyway, here is how I did it to max out the amount of rolls in the time given. I roll and quickly sum strength and dexterity. If they are not above 30 I roll again. I have found that if you are below 30 on any combination of 2 abilities (1st 2, 2nd 2, 3rd 2) that you will have almost 0% chance to get above 95. It allowed me to cycle through a lot of spins without adding all 6 numbers.

My method is similiar... I scan to see if all 6 are above 13 points. It is a total nightmare to roll stats for a Paladin... as the WWF song goes... ...

Rolling, rolling, rolling ~~

Monks are the easiest to roll for( optimal minimum is 76 points)... ...

Fighter/Druids are hard to get good scores too, as are decent Bards.

In my opinion, Paladins are the hardest, followed by rangers

It is easy to roll up a good set on the Barbarian, IMO. Druids are by far the worst...
