Microsofts msn will be closing all unsupervised or anon chats do to increases in pedophiles and sexual images in the chats. Most people disagree with the decision. With the exception of one group the childrens charites. With this recent devolopment what do you think?

I think it's their right to do what they see fit with their own services. It's also probably a wise business decision protecting them from any possible litigation in the future.

I think its a great idea!

Unless you can see someones face then unsupervised contact with them can only be dangerous.

ROFL! What would we do without you? This news was on TV a couple of days ago...

Might I just point out that the news broadcast I saw this in was possibly the most biased piece of reporting I've ever seen. The news reader could barely contain her approval for the scheme and remarked to the person she was interviewing about it: "This is quite obviously the right move, isn't it.", or words to that effect (it was a few days ago - I think that was what she said but I can't remember it word for word).

If anyone thinks that the most dangerous form of human contact is via machines that seperate the people conversing by great distances then they need their head examining. The only thing you can lie about online that you can't lie about in real life is your appearance. It makes little/no sense to think you're any safer talking to someone in a bar, or that they have to be necessarily any more honest.

It reminds me far too much of Brass Eye for my liking: "We estimate Peadophiles are using an area of internet the size of Ireland. We even have footage, that would be too alarming to show, of a child being interfered with by an online peadophile using a penis shaped soundwave. One boy became trapped online by a peadophile for an entire night, and when he was found by his parents he was almost entirely 2D, and had the jaded, listless, sexual appetites of a 63 year old colonel.".

Actually I like the title better than the subject. "Microsoft to close! Filed for bankruptcy yesterday!". Now that's a head line I like! ;) :D

As for this subject, better late than never but I wonder what an acceptable number of pedofiles is.

*giggles when reading Vaskey's comment* :D

BTW, a google on pedofiles usually gets this rather amusing comment "Look for pedofiles at Ebay"

Whats all the fuss all of a sudden? You think there were no and will be no pedofiles just because of MS chatrooms? Who do these guys think they are?!

LOL! Vaskie has a point, I heard the story on the radio several days ago. ;)

But as for the closing of unsupervised chats, well I don't hang out there so I won't miss 'em but in the long run, I agree with Harley here. Microsoft is not only doing what it thinks looks right to parents and social workers and anyone who worries about kids getting involoved in things they shouldn't, thus earning kudos for being a socially positive company, but they are saving themselves from major litigation and hassles by shutting them down which is no doubt the bottom line for the Micro$shaft management.

it is theirright to do so, and although i never even used one of them what they were distributing is illegal
