Do you guys think that chess is a racist game... i mean besides black and white... the whits always go first and i think that is a racist thought... couldn't you just flip aq coin or some othe methd to figure out who goes first rrather than you.. know.... telll me what you guys think about this thought .:>

Ohh, I'm getting a feeling this is going to get blown out of proportion.

Would you rather have the colors been white and gold? Black and silver pieces? There's nothing that resembles racism in chess, the colors are just there to seperate two opponents playing a quiet game, and the fact that white goes first is just a rule.

hm.......let me give that a thought.........well......that is a good point......well now acording to this new fact i say the person who created chess was a racist....yup thats it...

and Red and Blue/gold peices would be cool... :>

well i always said when i play chess.. why do the Whites always get to start.. no fair.. still i dont take it as a racist game

yeah well, I start to wonder that too, why do white always move first?

Actually I quite like the way white goes first, now before anyone starts calling me racist I like it because I always play the black side of the board and I prefer when my opponent goes first.

I have no idea on the origins of chess, but I don't think the colours of the pieces had anything to do with racism. It was probably so you could differentiate between them. Also, back then (whenever chess was invented [img]tongue.gif[/img] ) it was probably hard to stain or colour a piece of wood, therefore, they kept it simple - black and white. If all the pieces were white, it would be too complicated to play.

That is as silly as Worf on Startrek--people say it's racist because Worf has to STAND while on the bridge while everyone sits in chairs... lol silly.

Go to SixofSpades site and read his nicely written article at http://www.geocities.com/sixospades/race.htm and you will find out that in fact you are the racist for mentally connecting black and white to races instead of just viewing them as colours (actually they aren't colours but you get my point [img]smile.gif[/img] ).
