My mum heard on the radio the other day that you're not supposed to reuse bottled water bottles more than a couple of times because they have carcinogens or some other undesirable substance on the inside, which is unsafe. Does anyone know if that's true?

Gangrell 09-21-2003 06:20 PM

Doesn't sound like it is, otherwise you would consume these substances the first time I would think, not three times later

carcinogens in glass? Really.
They just want more money.
Don't ask how, it's just that.

Just do what I do... Drink from the Faucet... no wait you are not in Iceland...

Best thing about living here really...

Yeah! Let's make fun of all the people who have to buy water to drink it!
Those poor little slobs.

No they're plastic bottles.

Really we have two bottles in the fridge to keep tap water cool. They are old 2 litre fruit juice containers which we change every month or two. I know they (plastic bottles) get brittle and loose clarity after a while so yes there must be some changes, probably from UV rays. Anymore info Aelia Jusa?

No :( . My mum just heard it on the radio - dunno if it was a news item or just something the presenter mentioned. I take a water bottle to uni that I've refilled every day because they're a nice size. Am hoping it's just an urban myth, like using a mobile at petrol stations ;)

Gangrell 09-21-2003 07:21 PM

I'm pretty sure it's a myth Aelia, otherwise they wouldn't have sold them to begin with

I SERIOUSLY wouldn't worry about it. They're finding 2 extra reasons for us to worry about our health every day. I mean apparently all fried food is carcinogenic too - I still eat a damn lot of it :D
My mum also mentioned today that people who spend too much time in front of monitors, especially CRTs are statisticly less fertile. Am I gonna worry about this? No. You could easily spend your life worrying about everything they say is a health risk and your whole life will go by and you'll realise all you've done is worry instead of enjoying life.
Anyway, yeah I just drink straight from the tap too, anywhere in Europe at least.
