I am now in the city and right away got attacked by a bunch of guild peoples - I killed all within the guildhouse. Now outside down the street a ways a fellow has approached me about meeting with the guild boss or something. Have I blown a quest?

I went berserk in the thieves guild and slew everyone. It didn't mess up my game.

Turns out I did have a saved game for just prior to the slaughter...so I got the password and have infiltrated the thieves guild...now I am supposed to go to an estate and steal something and return...How do you find the places where you're supposed to meet people or estate names. I have been totally spoiled by playing BGII first as all the important places are marked on the maps!!

after getting your assignment and all that, you have to meet the guy outside of an inn, I think the Splurging Sturgeon. Then he takes you to a house, and he goes in to steal stuff while you keep watch.

The quest ordered by Alathos right ? You have to steal a statue, a book and a stone or something. Go to the central area of Baldurs Gate (where that kind of carnival is), and in the northern part of that map there is a closed building. Enter it and youll know what to do.

If you bought an official copy of BG1 then you will also have a rather large map in the box, looking on that will show you in which areas are the places you're looking for. I spent hours going from place to place looking for the Splurging Sturgeon until my daughter pulled the map from the box.
