the meaning of life...?

Blagh, nah, thats not really what I wanted to ask, but where can I find a decent freeware program that can let me choose what program starts as windows starts...? Please notice the freeware, I'm cheap and have no time or want to look for a crack for a shareware program...

Just use Windows.

Whatever program you want to start with Windows, create a shortcut and put it into the 'Startup' folder within Windows. Can't get much more freeware than that. :D

hmm, let me see, how about the one that is part of windows :D

if you click run, then type 'msconfig' and press enter you will get a dialoge box. if you goto startup you can deselect cirtain things from starting. if you have XP however you may need a different program, because otherwise xp will complain that you are using 'selective startup' every time

hope this helps

edit: animal, startup folder doesnt hold half the programs msconfig does, but it is useful if you want a program like samurize to start on boot :D

I assumed the question was related to third party software, so it is the easiest method to use when having programs start of logon. When dealing with integrated programs, msconfig is the only way to go, but you have to add programs manually to the registry if you want to use msconfig for third party programs, not the best idea for some people.

XP will only 'complain' once when using selective startup as long as you check the "Don't ask me again" dialogue the first time.

true, but i assume he is probably trying to disable annoying start up programs, as opposed to creating new ones. if he is trying to create new ones, then i agree he Definatly should use startup. :D

Holy c... I didn't know about MsConfig... I had a 3rd party program that was very easy to use but can't find it anymore.

and I'm trying to remove a program so the startup folder is out of the question... but thanks guys!

It's cleanup time!
