I have several old programs (games, utilities, etc.) in my Windows Registry that it won't remove (I removed them directly to the Trash, or without using the Windows Add/Remove program, etc.). Is there a program that will enable me to clean the Registry up without having the original programs available (the ones I already removed)? I'm using Win XP Home.
Any direction here would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Michael [ 07-24-2003, 11:34 AM: Message edited by: RitingFool ] |
I think it's best to remove all unwanted files manually, instead of using any programs. Or doesn't that work either ?

I did a quick Google search & found this link of free registry cleanup utilities. I haven't used any of them so can't say if they work, don't work, or trash your machine. Good luck...

I use regcleaner
http://www.webmasterfree.com/regcleaner.html it's never given me any problems (though it doesn't seem available for download many places any more. Maybe this is because somehting about it is broken - i don't know), and it has a handy automatic cleanup feature to go along with the manual deletion options. You might also check for (and install, if it's not there) TweakUI. That's a collection of Microsoft tools that MS has provided with limited support. IOW, they haven't run it through the full QA process, but they use it internally.
I've used it on W98, W2k, and I think Me (though I dropped that quickly). I suspect it's there on XP as well. |
