Then you may be intreated in this

"A consignment of thousands of rubber ducks is expected to wash up any day on the coast of New England - after more than a decade at sea".

or you may think that this thread has been a contender for IW worst post

You decide

I heard something about this on NPR. Wellard, this is a GREAT story. Thanx for the link, I'd forgotten all about it and this made me smile.

Nice Job!!!

Rubber Ducky

(From Sesame Street-Sung by Ernie)

Rubber Ducky, you're the one,
You make bathtime lots of fun,
Rubber Ducky, I'm awfully fond of you;

Woo woo be doo

Rubber Ducky, joy of joys,
When I squeeze you, you make noise!
Rubber Ducky, you're my very best friend, it's true!

Doo doo doo doo, doo doo

Every day when I
Make my way to the tubby
I find a little fella who's
Cute and yellow and chubby

Rub-a-dub-a-dubby!

Rubber Ducky, you're so fine
And I'm lucky that you're mine
Rubber ducky, I'm awfully fond of you.

Every day when I
Make my way to the tubby
I find a little fella who's
Cute and yellow and chubby

Rubber Ducky, you're so fine
And I'm lucky that you're mine
Rubber ducky, I'm awfully fond of -
Rubber ducky, I'd like a whole pond of -
Rubber ducky I'm awfully fond of you!

Doo doo, be doo

(Sorry, I could not resist.)

I like the ones that broke away and headed for Hawaii. I can imagine one of them saying, "To heck with all this frozen water, onward to the tropics! Who's with me!?!" ;)

I thought something along the same lines

I think scientists originally got the idea from an accident where a ship carrying a cargo of rubber-soled sneakers capsized sending a swarm of shoes on a long oceangoing journey. Where the shoes finally ended up left most of the scientific community in shock forcing them to rethink their ideas about the currents of the pacific.

The rubber duck method might be somewhat lo-fi with significant giggle value, but it is a surefire method to evaluate ones theories about ocean currents.
