I heard on the news that WHO said that they stopped SARS.

I don't know, my parents will be going to Shanghai on 19th. so I think it's over already.

The epidemic seems to be over, but that doesnt mean you dont have to be careful. Especially in china where hygenics arent as good as in most parts of the western world (believe me i've been there )

SARS will always be there. It can't be stopped. Just a matter of time before we'll hear about it again.

You are probably correct...

Paladin2000 07-11-2003 05:05 AM

Nope. They only managed to control the spread, which means no new cases for the time being. Since SARS is a RNA virus, it might take many many years to find a cure for it.

Xen 07-11-2003 05:07 AM

AFAIK they think they found a cure but they ahve to test it first...

Well people are voting yes it's over with travel in the region starting to get back to normal. Now the press have stopped scaring people, after all it was about 800 deaths, there are much worse flue viruses every year.

It's not time to sleep on your laurels just yet (it very seldom is with diseases), but the risk of widespread epidemics with untold amounts of economic damage and human tradegy seems to have blown off.
