British scientists detect a star that has a giant planet in an orbit

Was just about to post this article. Well don't need to now.

"advance life" ? if they are advance, they would have found us already by now. no need for us to search for them.

actually, our own radio transmissions have not yet reached this particular star system, so they really have no direct way of detecting our civilization [img]smile.gif[/img] . well, unless they can visually detect the earth in which case they could spectroscopically determine the chemical composition of our atmosphere; oxygene and methane are a sure give-away of life...

well kakero if there is life there...who says they're space faring? or are using something that could detect our radio frequencies. could be completely different type of long distance communication they use. [img]tongue.gif[/img] only a quick random thought.

Radio is pretty basic to long range commnications, and any race interested in astronomy would use radio astronomy the same we do. Its one of those basic technologies that is inevitable, theres no real alternative unless the race concered is far more advanced.

Of course, theres always the possibility the race might not develop long range communications at all, but humanity discovered it quite early after electricty, I doubt any 'advanced' race would be unaware of it.

Whether they would have equipment sensitive enough to pick up Hitlers ravings (the first decently-powered broadcast apparently) is another question - suddenly I hope not.
