Actaully these are nearly rail guns. They have no moving parts other then the projectiles. Pretty interesting tech.

The electro-magnetic railgun uses only an electric current to create an electromagnetic field that forces the projectile out of the gun. i've heard it can be quite powerful but they can't make it mobile as it takes too much electricity.
