Schwarzenegger Mulls California Governor Election.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is seriously considering running for California governor after the summer release of his new movie, Terminator 3: Rise Of The Machines. The Hollywood action hero says the only thing standing in his way is if his family objects to his political move. He explains, "When I get to that point that I say, 'I want to run,' I will have that conversation with my family and with my close friends." He says the advice of his wife Maria Shriver - a relative of America's political Kennedy clan - will be especially significant. He adds, "She has to give the green light and feel comfortable with it because she moved away from Washington to get away from all that kind of stuff. I'm not thinking about it now, but I might start thinking about after Terminator 3 is released. So much has to be done for marketing, publicity, commercial tie-ins, and the merchandising."

Hmmmm.... an ex-actor Republican California Governor. Well, I like Arnie fine, but not the last ex-actor Republican California Governor I heard of. That guy did us some ill, IIRC.

If Jesse Ventura could - why not Arnold?

And quite a bit of good too, as I seem to recall, there used to be an actual threat of global themonuclear war between two super powers that would have ended all life on earth...now due in large part to that "actor" and his administrations policies we no longer have that as a real threat.

The revenues to the treasury also doubled during his terms in office, altho congress did increase spending at more than double the rate.

Be that as it may. I hardly think that Arnie could hurt the state worse than Gray Davis....I mean the state is only like 20 - 30 BILLION dollars in debt....how much worse could it get? (You know some nations don't even have GNP's of 20 - 30 billion $)</font>

To be fair a lot of that debt is due to factors beyond anyones control. The collapse of the tech bubble hit california pretty hard. And the so callled 'energy crisis' which it's turning out was entirely fabracted, did not help either.

It could get much worse. If we were run by a lunatic, we could be anticipating increasing the national debt to <h1> FIVE TRILLION </h1> over the next 5 years. Oh, wait, we are. Hmmm.... why is it the "business party" always spends more money less responsibly. [img]graemlins/1ponder.gif[/img] Well, they do LURVE tanks and guns, y'know. Of course, we'd be a bit better off if they read the first 3 pages of Bastiat's "Broken Window" and realized that we are NOT better off having the government employ 1 in every 10 folks just to march around with a gun.

But, I get your point. ;) And, Rokenn's too. It is a tad bit unfair to blame it all on Gray Davis. Howsabout blaming deregulation?? Weren't we better off with Ma Bell and other government-regulated heavily-entrenched utility monopolies?? :D

I do believe that Mr. Davis was a instigator in many deregulations especially in the Electric Utility industry. Be interesting to see his personal accounting info on that subject [img]smile.gif[/img] I think he can be fairly listed as one of the worst money managers in that states history. </font>

Well, I guess he can be governor, but he can NOT go higher. President, and therefore anyone who could end up as president (VP, Senators, Congressmen, Cabinetmen, etc) can't be foreign citizens. They have to be natural born US citizens. Even though in Demolition Man, they made mention of an act of Congress that repeals that rule so that Arnie could be Pres and that he had a Shwarzanegger Presidential Library.

While it may have been a joke, I truly hope you don't consider my concern hysterical. Hocking our children's futures to buy tanks and cut taxes now is BAD BAD BAD. Bushie-boy is using the Eva Peron style of gaining political popularity: hock the country and dole out the dollars. As if no one will be the wiser. :D

Of course, having never had to worry about money much, I can understand our President's ignorance regarding responsible use of credit.

I want a tax cut. But I demand that every dollar you give back to the people represent a dollar you cut from spending. Otherwise, you've given me nothing in the end, because that dollar tax cut I hold now will cost more than a dollar to pay back. And, my taxes will do the paying there too. Cut spending. Damnit.
