I've been carrying around some items for a long time and I was curious if any of these items serve a purpose in SoA or any other point in the series...

Wyvern head - (from planar sphere) (I also realized I can just
summon a wyvern and kill him)
Bodhi's black heart
Journal(s) of John Irenicus
Any of the items you accumulate on specific quests
Harper necklace (not the pin)
powerful old armor (after you've upgraded)-is there anything a 'good' mage can wear?
human flesh if you don't want to kill the silver dragon
bejurils, diamonds, king's tears, and other gems - (after you get horn)
Keys
amuletes of protection 1 (which can't be worn with anything because of magic)
potions of insight, clarity, etc.
sunstone (after underdark)

I'm sure I'm forgetting some...but I need to clear inventory..thanks!

You will need to keep the heart of bodhi if you have a romance.

You do not need the journals. They are just there to spoil the game for you, which you don't need because you have Ironworks Forum.

Wyvern heads are a leftover from BG1, where there was a quest to get and bring back the most Wyvern heads. You can sell them at the Adventurer's mart (I think).

Sell all of your gems. They are of no use in SoA after you make the horn.

The harper necklace is of no value. Discard it.

Are you playing solo? If not, save the protection amulets for other members of the party. If you are, then sell them because you cannot wear them.

A 'good' mage can wear the Robe of the Good Archmage, and can also wear any of the other robes in the game that protect from elements. (fire, cold, acid, etc.) The Robe of Vecna is also a good choice, but is unavailable unless you have ToB.

Throw the Human Flesh away or sell it. Without the blood it is as useless as a piece of regular Leather Armor.

Keep the sunestone if you haven't already done the Umar Hills quest. If you have done it, or don't want to do it, then I suggest that you discard it or sell it.

If you have finished the specific quests already, then you should throw away or sell the quest items.

The potions might come handy later. Keep them.

You can download the bonus merchant patch.

I'm keeping them in my stronghold as souvenirs. Things you could pull forth to show your grandchildren.

Oh, I sell the gems I don't need.

1. Wyvern Heads sell

2. You need the Beljuril Gem and a Diamond to upgrade the horn of valhalla, u havent upgraded it all the way or you would lose the gems

3. You can get that robe with the Bonus Merchants

4. The sunstone you use in underdark, your thinking of shadow dragon word stone.

I also keep the "Quest Items" in my stronghold as keepsakes and mementoes.. After all, why else would most of the strongholds have all those containers? As for the King's Tears, KEEP THEM, as I'm pretty sure you need them as item components in ToB. You might... *might* also need diamonds in ToB for the same reason, but I'm not sure.
For mages, I prefer the Robe of Vecna myself, but there are all those other more or less useless robes floating around.. Traveler's Robe, Robe of Fire Resistance, and all that.. But near the end of SoA you will be able to pick up LOTS of Elven Chainmail which a fighter/mage or cleric/mage can wear.
Since you can only wear one protective item (Be it enchanted armor, ring, robe or necklace) it's best to plan out your items.. Since the Staff of Power or Staff of the Magi help you with AC, it's a good idea to find them (as if that's so easy). For a multiclass mage who can wear a helmet, the Helm of Glory comes to mind.. Otherwise the Dusty Rose Ioun Stone is a good choice (Both give +1 to AC.) The Cloak of Balduran is good because it can be worn at the same time as another protection item.. Usually I opt for the Ring of Protection +2 or +3 (in ToB.)
Since high Dexterity gives you a bonus to AC, give your mages high Dex. If it's too late, you can always take the Gauntlets of Dexterity and use them. If you need help finding any of these items just get in touch with me and I'll be glad to help.

the other gems you should hold onto if you have ToB, as many great and powerful items can be upgraded using simple(although expensive) gems

I always kept almost everything, and when i had the castle as my stronghold i stuffed it all in chests. Don't know why, i guess i'm kind of a junkyard dog ! :D
