IIRC the way to keep Yoshimo is to turn him to stone (using the lvl 6 mage spell) - and when un-stoning him once you return
but I'm not sure though |
Yoshimo: I've never tried it, too, but I've heard about this method. It was reported as a fully functional one. Drawback: After returning from the Underdark and un-stoning Yoshimo, Yoshimo will be a low level character because he loses all the XP which you gain on your way through Asylum and following areas.
Has anybody tried to stone Yoshimo in Brynnlaw and unstone him immediately after emerging from Asylum? This would decrease Yoshimo's losses of XP. The demon: Only a solo sorceror or a sorceror as a member of a small party (say, 3 members) can do it. Moreover, you must install level 50 rules. The problem here is that the demon is protected from death caused by HP = 0. You can beat it and cause that it will have only 1 HP but - the demon will never lose its 1 HP no matter how long you will beat it further. Some other special beings behave the same way. Nevertheless, the demon (as well as other similar special beings like Arkanis Gath, Bhaal and so on) isn't protected from death caused by INT = 0. Therefore, shapeshift to mind flayer (a level 9 spell, that's why we need a sorceror, a small party, and the level 50 rules) and drain demon's INT. I've never tried it as well so that I cannot say what happens when you kill Bhaal and so on. Note: Has anybody tried a weapon with "delayed effect", like Jhor the Bleeder or Gnasher, on the demon? I remember that I killed a Mist Form with such weapon once. The game get confused a bit: the Mist Form didn't evaporate or something like that - it ceased moving as if it were paralyzed and the info box said: "Mist Form - dead". Let us note that the Mist Form is supposed to be invulnerable, too. If the weapon worked at the Mist Form, perhaps, it would work at the demon, too. I don't know. Yoshimos almost top level and has full stats virtually in thief skills so the experience loss wont bother me, thanks a lot.

There's also a way to do it without Stone to Flesh: Just leave Yoshimo in the Copper Coronet, or bott him from the party and send him back. When you re-enter the building, he will immediately die, as a result of his geas taking effect. BUT--a character wearing Boots of Speed can run up to him and talk to him before he dies, and recruit him back into the party. He will accept, the dialogue will end, and he will instantly die. But, because he's in the party, you can easily Raise him again, and no harm done.
I should note that this might conflict with the designers' intentions, but there is a loophole in the wording of the geas: Yoshimo described its effects as "it hurts, and then you die," not "it hurts, and then you die with no chance of resurrection." |
Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you! I was so upset when I got back from underdark and Yoshimo was dead anyway. Lucky I quit the game right there. Reloaded just outside the Copper Coronet and went in the door closest to him. Worked like a charm.
