That's really cool. What exactly is a mini-eclipse?
In this case it's a silly assed joke. A mini planet crossed infront of the sun. In this case it's Mercury. In a year more or less Venus is suppose to transit the sun. This is an even more rare eclipse. The last time it happened was 1890's. So no one alive now has ever seen it.
I think the planet Mercury passed in front of the sun, Harley.
It's not visible to the bare eye but can be seen through a telescope. |
You could have seen it through a special telescope. But the images shown were obtained from the SOHO satellite.
And just a warning - it may seem obvious but just in case anyone's daft enough to try it
do not look at the sun through a telescope, you will permanently damage your eyes! Astronomers view the images on a monitor these days ;) |
