Who says you can't use it ?

Grojlach 05-07-2003 07:58 AM

It depends on the context whether it's smart to use it or not, obviously... There's a difference between using it in a malicious way to someone you don't like and using it to retort a good friend's teasing in a tongue-in-cheek-way. Either way, I never use it myself; not exactly my style.

The rules say that you aren't allowed to insult anyone. This "smiley" (along with several others) is very insulting. Although it can be used in other ways. For example:
I wish one of the options of the conversation with that fat bartender is !

Kakero 05-07-2003 09:28 AM

what's the difference between that and this bart thing?

Attalus 05-07-2003 09:38 AM

There's a lot of difference. "Mooning" is purely humorous, but flipping someone off has a highly insulting meaning if it is clearly not done in jest, with a friend, or at least someone that you have done a lot of sparring with. Like Groj, I do not use it, at all.

Cloudbringer 05-07-2003 09:51 AM

I've seen it used in rants about things not related to IW or it's posters, and I've seen it used as some of the others pointed out above, in complete jest and obviously not meant seriously. It's when that or any other comment/graphic is used to add to flames and insults that it becomes out of bounds.

I, personally, don't use it in my posts. I'd rather avoid any potential misunderstandings and same as Groj, it's not my style.

I wouldn't use it. It someone irks me, I just result to violence. :D

I can't afford Willow's rental rates, so I am forced to use a fish.
