I turned me PC on and got some weird message about having a CHECKSUM error - wtf is that?
Then I rebooted, and got a message saying: "CPU IS UNWORKABLE OR HAS BEEN CHANGED" When I hit F1, it continues to boot up OK, although I'm still getting GPFs all over the place. This sounds serious to me, can anyone help? |
Select nearest hammer, pick up hammer, draw back arm and POW!!!!!
Sorry Epona - will melt into the background and let the tecchie minded people help now - you haven't got any vodka on you by any chance - I could do with a drink :D |

And no vodka - heck, *I* could do with some! |
I think it's gone beyond amateur help. It sounds like its time to call in the professionals i.e. the sort of people who advertise in the classified sections of newspapers. The only other thing I can think of is getting hold of a good diagnostic prog like Sisoft Sandra and letting it try to sort you out.
Or just go with Davros's suggestion...... [ 06-01-2002, 07:19 PM: Message edited by: Mouse ] |
What, she still hasn't taken my suggestion - all that creative input for a sum total of no action (sigh).

WOOHOO - IT'S HAMMER TIME :D

Checksum errors at boot usually have to do with a BIOS problem. Hopefully your CMOS battery is dying. Replacements are cheap. Enter the BIOS and see if the date and time are correct. If it is right, you may need to update the BIOS...not an easy task to describe in a forum.
