Someone is approached in a street by a group of men around the same age as he. The group starts a fight (unprovoked) and one pulls a knife on the 'someone'. The 'Someone' punches the armed man in the face, disarming him. The police arrive, and see the armed man on the floor clutching a broken nose. Immediatly, the cuff Mr Someone and cart him off, without listening to ANYONE's remarks or witnesses, and Someone spends a night in a cell because the police refused to question people at the seen and only saw a broken nose.

Right or wrong?

Well, they could have listened to the witnesses if there were any, they should have really taken everyone in, and interviewed them all.

the cops definitely did wrong.but of course if the cops had questioned them they would have come up with several different stories thereby making their job harder.they usually like to follow the path of least resistence in things like this.

I must press that the police did apoligise relentlisly after the incident (but then, of course they would).

maybe someone was just lucky that they took him in, he could be stabbed if they took one of the others.

True - I guess they just sought to clear up the fight as soon as they could. It was stupid that they didn't ask questions though.

Yeah, thanx for giving me a different perspective, Johnny. But still, while it was lucky nobody was hurt, trust me, I could have held my ground. The knife was fully out of this guy's hands and a bystander (not on one side or the other) had kicked it away. I also had a few friends around me, so I don't think the police were looking out for my safety, I think they just wanted an arrest.

I was sent to the brig for getting punched in the face unprovoked, so yeah, its not fair but it does exist and the whole justice system itsn't about asking questions it is about aresting people who are trouble makers

You sure you didnt provoke? Doesnt matter actually. I provoke all the time and never get into fights.
