Yep, i know its been discussed before, sorry but

- I am going with either Aerie or Jaheira, for Romance and to have in my party, i am tending towards Jahiera but idont know if she gets any good later on in the game- WHO IS BETTER?

also, in Bg1, the fat spider woman in Cloakwood says that she was imprisoned there by someone called Jon Icarus, is this meant to be Jon Irenicus boy from bg2 or is it someone else? Did the Black Isle people think of that irenicus is a better name or what?

Romances are strictly optional - Jaheira/Aerie do not get any better for being "romanced". It just adds an interesting side-plot to spice the game up a bit.
That said, I have heard the the Jaheira romance is bugged. At least, that's what I read on the boards. As for my own personal experience, I have only done the Aerie romance. It was... interesting ;) .

Who to take into your party depends on your party make up. Here's my final party at the end of SoA:

PC (a Kensai) - tank
Minsc - tank
Keldorn - tank; his dispel magic & true sight were life savers!
Jaheira - main healer, plus summoner of animals
Aerie - cleric/healer & secondary mage
Imoen - primary mage & thief (good enough to pick locks & disarm traps)

It all depends on how you wish to play.

Jaheira has "better" quests, but the idea of romancing her makes me want to lose my lunch. Others feel similarly about Aerie. Basically, if you're playing "good" you should probably go with Aerie, and Jaheira for a "neutral" outlook. I don't really think it matters, though.

Jaheira´s romance is more interesting. More stuff happens. Alas, it is also buggy.

JAheira's romance is worth doing because its the most challenging (due to the bugs) and there are more quests involved.

Cheers, when i meant who was better, it wasnt really about the romances, but in combat etc, i have just finished the Nalia keep quest and have 14 500 gp (i need 15 grand for Gaylen Bayle) and my party consists of

Me- Fighter/Mage imported from bg1, tank and spell caster (-4 ac)
Keldorn - tank
Minsc - Tank
Jaheira - Main healer crap at everything else at the moment
Yoshimo - Thief, crap fighter, will get rid of him if i find another thief

Both Aerie and Jaheira are good in combat, with Aerie an elite spellcaster, while Jaheira is a semi-tank/summoner/minor-spellcaster.

Romance wise, Jaheira dies in her cage, Aerie gets loving from my character.

Take Yoshimo with you when you do the Spellhold quest. Then you'll get rid of him.

I say take Viconia. If you are good however, I recommend you:

Throw on the Helm of Opposite Alignment and go with Viconia.

She rocks! Her romance is interesting, she is (in my opinion) the best cleric NPC in the game, and at higher levels she makes an awesome tank. At the end of the game, she was nigh invincible!
