Well i found out i have no savegames BEFORE i entered the place, and ive cleared it out made the golem, got the entrance to the lower levels and all that. Then i come to a dillema...

go through the right door where the runes are and i get owned by zatok or whatever his name is, because all my weapons are ineffective.

Go downstairs and tolgerias gets pissed because instead of killing valygar i bought him along to open the sphere myself.

And i thought this would be easy =) Ive looked around but cant find any info on this quest... Any help would be good

There is one word... and the word is...

... <font size="4", color="red">Breach</font>

1. On Lavok...memorize some spells that will breach his defenses...either that, or run back out of the room and wait for them to wear off. "Spell Thrust", "Breach", "Magic Word", "Dispel Magic", and "Remove Magic" will work. So will "Pierce Magic" if you have it and can cast it. Then have your tanks bring him down.

2. The only really nasty thing Tolgerias casts is "Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting". So when he casts it, keep your group close to the exit and immediately run out, then run back in...it will have dissapated by that time. Use a "Cloudkill" into the room, and memorize some "Dispel Invisibility" spells as well as "True Sight", since he loves to use Mislead in a spell trigger. Again, breach his magical defenses, and take him down with arrows and Magic Missiles.

Hope this helps!

thanks guys, as far as magic goes my group sucks but ill have to piece together what i can =/ i dont want to have to restart the game it would take ages to get back to where i am (though i think as far as difficulty goes i did enter the sphere earlier than i presume i was supposed to, it took me ages just to kill the halfling mages)

Out of idle curiosity, who is in your party, and what are their levels?

Mattp 07-06-2002 12:18 PM

I just started playing yesterday, i have from memory:
My character, who is a fighter (opens up baldurs gate so he can get the levels)
OK...

Mattp - Fighter lvl 9
Minsc - Ranger lvl 9
Jaheira - Druid lvl 10/Fighter lvl 8
Yoshimo - Bounty Hunter lvl 12
Anomen - Fighter lvl 7/Cleric lvl 9
Valygar - Stalker lvl 9

As i was saying im rather new to baldurs gate and all, to the point where im not even sure where 1D10 means =) I am GUESSING it means 1 x a 10 sided dice roll, but really i have noooo idea...

Jah and Anomen have a few spells up their sleeve, but im not much of a spell casting player. IF i can beat the hell out of something i will =P

/me rubs his eyes

Okay... Lavok and Tolgerias are going to be the least of your problems if those are your levels. All I will say is, Jaheira is going to be your friend, your very good friend. At least for this quest.

She is capable of casting Insect Plague, a level 5 Druidic spell. Use it against either Lavok or Tolgerias. If it hits, game over for them. ;)

Later on in the future, use Anomen to cast Free Action, a level 4 Clerical spell. This is for... foes who like to cast paralytic spells. You have been forewarned.

Your deduction is correct.

Brash melee may be suitable most of the time, but when faced with a magical foe, best thee learn how to cast the appropriate spells. ;)

hmm didnt know insect plague was that good, ive been using magic miscast on them.

your party has no mage casters, things might go easier if you pick one up, like jan or edwin or nalia

Mattp, while it is technically possible to defeat spellcasters without much magic, it often amounts largely to running away until their spells run out. You really need a better balanced part. That is, you need at least one mage early in the game.

I usually will have 2 mages for the 2nd half of the game, but I think that it can be done with one. Get either Nalia or Edwin, depending on whther your party is good or evil. I've always prefered Nalia because I play good parties. I also like that as a mage that "minored" in theif skills, Nalia can also wield some nice ranged weapons, such as cross bows and short bows. This allows her to save her spells for when they're really needed.

Jahiera and Anomen can make a really potent pair of preistly spellcasters and secondary melee fighters to back up your main character. I'm running a party right now where I have those 2 in the party.

FYI, like others have mentioned, the druidic spell, Insect Plague, is probably the most potent combat spell that Jahiera has to offer. I STRONGLY suggest that she have a least one of it memorized as soon as she is able.
