I obviously have internet connection without the router.
When I plug in the router, the base station is found, and everything is good until it then tries to verify internet connection. It says it cannot find connection. One idea is that WinXP has it's own firewall. DOes that have to be disabled first? How do I do that? I have disabled ZoneAlarm, so it is not that. Any ideas will be received with praise. |
I'm not sure what the problem may be, but XP's built in firewall, nor Zone Alarm will stop you from connecting to the internet through a cable router.
They may/will effect your ability to access certain sites or other machines on a LAN, but not the internet. [ 03-25-2003, 08:22 PM: Message edited by: Ronn_Bman ] |
Windows, by default, is assuming that you are connecting directly to the net with no router and looking for an IP. The router is receiving the IP from your provider, and translating it into an address that Windows isn't expecting.
Just run the Home networking wizard, and tell it to connect through a gateway or third party computer. |
Animal is right!
I've had more luck with using the HUB option than the gateway option though. Using the HUB option automatically initiates the activation of the XP firewall thought, so you have to turn it off manually, but other than that... |

I will try that now...Ronn...you can turn on your MSN Messenger if you think it'll help walk me through...

Okay...I am still stuck...where do I find this stuff and how do I go about setting it up??? Do I do it before I attempt to reconnect the router???

It took a phone call and many e-mails to people...but I got it working. The problem was that the management utility did not automatically have my PC name entered, and had to be entered manualy. It had something to do with roadrunner cable, and how certain things had to line up...

Sorry I didn't see that Nessenger comment last night Larry or I would have tried to help before I went to bed.
