<font color=skyblue>I bought my WinXP today, and for the first time, realized that the Full install does not include an installation of Office XP. Office XP is about $550. There is a special price for the same packet for teachers and students of $145. I was able to justify buying that because my wife is a full-time student at UNCG, in her senior year. I will be going in the Fall, if I get accepted, to become a Spanish Teacher. My question is this...What does it involve to install this software? How do I prove to it that Karen is a student? What happens when she is out of school in May, but I ahve not started yet? Once I install it, do I have to prove once again that one of us are students? Will I lose the license at the time our schooling ends?

I am told that every two years...we are to reinstall our OS...so what does this do to this Office version that I have? Will I have to prove that we are still in school?</font>

iirc the deal is you have to show that you are a student, or have a child that is, to purchase the cut price software but once you have bought it that's it. no more validation is needed. This is of course the deal in Australia i guess it will be the same in USA

Also we checked with the local shop and because our oldest child is at school though only 5 years old we can access the deal.

Still overpriced though :(

Same is true in USA. I got my Corel and Office (now useless due to XP) software when I was in law school, and have not gone to renew or re-buy the software. Of course, if I were a student, I'd be buying Office software, but I'm not so I'll just let my home-based productivity drop. I hate Windblows.

Now maybe if it included one of those diamonds produced by coals shoved up and pressurized in Bill Gates's tight bum, it'd be worth it. Otherwise, I'll just use the copy at my multi-billion dollar firm, thank you very much.

For in excess $500, I could treat myself to new furniture or a good digital camera. Or even a third-world child on the international black market. Sheesh.

Its just a way of microsoft to have a sale, with out admiting its products are way overpriced. they full know everyone has access to a student who can go in the shop to buy it for them.

Who told you you have do a reinstall every two years? That's a load of crap someone's been feeding you, dude.

One would think that, being convicted (though unpunished) monopopists that Micro$haft would include a bottle of KY with their "competitively priced" bloatware .... but no .... they want you to feel the pain of being "moraly supperior" to all the thieving pirates.

Larry, what you do have to worry about is if you change the config of your PC too often or too much. XP will lock itself so you can't use it, thinking that you are pirating. You then have to call M$ and justify what you've done with your own property.

Saved all needed files onto disks.
Unplugged my USB port scanner and printer
Entered BIOS to look for place to tell it to boot from disk.

I cannot find any wording in BIOS to mean "boot from disk".

Any ideas?</font>

look for "Boot Sequence"... and there you will see how the drives, in order, are booted.. after that, i think you won't have any problem... [img]smile.gif[/img]
