I learned that I just lost my job, and without warning... tomorow will be my last day. I am working for a maintenance company, and they decided they would switch from a night shift to a morning shift. :(

But on the bright side, I got this is in my inbox:

Quote:

Dear Sir/Madam:

To maintain our leadership as a high-speed Internet access provider and offer you a service that lives up to your expectations, we are pleased to announce that, since January 23, 2003, your Vidéotron high-speed Internet package gives you even more speed and greater data transfer capacity, at no extra charge.

1. Even more speed

Even though Vidéotron is already offering the fastest Internet service in Québec, your maximum download speed (from Internet to your computer) has been increased from 2.8 Mbps to 3.1 Mbps, and your upload speed (from your computer to Internet) from 128 kbps to 180 kbps*. These changes translate into a download speed increase of 10% and an upload speed increase of 40%.

2. Even more data transfer capacity

In addition, in order to better respond to your Internet needs, your monthly download data transfer limit has been increased from 6 gigabytes (GB) to 10 gigabytes (GB), an increase of 66%.

Please note that your monthly upload data transfer limit has not been changed and is still 5 gigabytes (GB).

3. Introduction of a maximum billing limit for excessive bandwidth use

If you happen to exceed your service's monthly allocated bandwidth consumption (please note that 98% of our customers never exceed it), fees of $7.95 per extra gigabyte will be charged** to your bill, up to a maximum amount of $99.95*** for overconsumption.
Well.... I can always use a better internet connection. And look like I'll be spending even more time on Ironworks for a while...

Aw, Luvian, I'm so sorry. Believe me, I know what it's like to lose your livlihood. Hope it gets better, bro. :(

Well...the internet part was great news!
As to the job...how is the employment rate there?
Do you foresee any trouble getting hooked up?

From what little I know of you, you will have a job again real fast, no sweat.

Cloudbringer 02-11-2003 11:31 PM

Oh Luvian, that's awful! I hope you find a job soon! The faster internet is good, though.

Well... I'm in no big hurry to find a new job. I have enough to last a month easily, more if I spend a little less than usual. And I can always temporarily take any job that come by. But it suck to spend time looking when I already had a great job, and I'll be losing money, too. I was keeping that money for a new computer...

Harkoliar 02-11-2003 11:48 PM

ouch, that really hurts doing that kind of thing. but im sure you can handle those kind of stuff . hope you get a better job soon.

OH NO

I am very sorry to hear that. It's disgracefull how they gave you so little notice, that is just treating people like dirt . Is Canada going through a recession, every person I know in Canada (3) has just lost or is losing there job.

Best wishes and good luck Luvian

ps I'm sure we can rustle up 10,000+ refrances through Ironworks!

Sorry to hear that Luvian.

I am in a similar position myself - I lost my job about a week before Christmas, and I'm still looking for work. I'm well qualified but think I might end up flipping burgers LOL.

Hope you find something soon.

I'm very sorry to hear about your troubles, Luvian. A very good friend of mine went through a similar experience a little over a year ago. He was a computer programmer and worked from his home. His company "downsized" about 3 months after he and his family had relocated to a brand new area. He couldn't find anything in his field, so it led to a complete career change.

I hope your situation changes soon and you find another job you like just as well as your previous one.
