This is weird. In real life, arrows are deadly, and one can kill a person. In BG2, a high-level character can be hit by arrows 15 or more times but still not die. Is that strange or what?

I think the Black Isle dudes made bows and arrows too weak. 1d6 damage? That sucks, in real life it would be:

Arrows

Damage: 3d6 ( save vs. death at -2 or die instantly)
Damage Type: Missile (piercing)
Weight: 2 oz
Launcher: Bow
Not usable by:
Druid
Cleric
Mage

See the difference?

You mean, as opposed to swords which can't kill people instantly?

Dude, Ad&d game rules. The game does not try to be realistic.

Well what do you think about the command and Conquer games... were footsoldier survive multiple fires from a tank but die from one shotgunwound... not that a shotgunwound wouldn't kill you but woulsn't a blast from a tank do that too?

By the way I think BG would just be waaay to hard with realistic weapons... you'd die just as you would in real life... quickly

exactly, AD&D core rules,or, AD&D roars "crule"

first time I played, my thief got fitted with a dagger (pen & paper)

I figured a knife man!! why do i need some big sword and all this armour, anyway, i got my ass wooped, but learned to accept the 19 arrows in my back that didn't hurt, and soon be came Zenthis!! Superior Thief!! Person that got his ass whooped by a sneak attack of a gibbelring, but almost survied with his 90 arrows in the back!!! DUN DUN DUN!!

mate, think about it.... a arrow is MUCH less deadly than a sword.... and what would the game be like if they went for full on realism? You would die every five seconds.

Xero279 06-30-2002 01:46 AM

i think u can take lots of arrows without dying because (like real life) not every arrow is gonna peirce through you or hit a major organ. some arrows barely stick in your or hit you then fall out. If it stuck all the way through you then i can see u dying, or if i hit like your head of heart or whatever.. but not every arrow does that.. if u want to make it really ( ) real then u would have to factor in air resistance and stuff like that. you could should the best show uve ever shot then have a wind come and slow it down or knock it off course

A punch by an Iron Golem will result in instant death, come to think of it, make them immune to arrows and weapons, because seriously, in real life? You try hacking an iron statue.

All melee attacks during a Time Stop should result in grevious injury if not death, because think about it... you have 18 seconds to hit your target anywhere... ANYWHERE. You know what a person can do with a Quarterstaff given 18 seconds and an immobile target? Short of sheer stupidity or an extremely powerful target, the target is DEAD.

When I think of using Fireball, I imagine the person screaming in acute agony, not shrugging it off and asking for another one please... ...

There is more, but these limitations are put in for a reason.

Also, you know, think about it, if we're already aiming for realistic than what's up with all this balls of energy flying out of people's hands? every saw that happening in real life, huh?

Magic users should only be able to pull rabits out of their hats and stuff like that, and clerics should only be able to heal you if you are the brother of a friend of my uncle who once spoke to some one who went to some hollistic healer who touched his leg and cured his slight headache. That's realism for you!

Glorfindel 06-30-2002 06:17 AM

No i find the magic quite ok in realism... because that is just a part of the world which the game is based.

Well... if we want to aim for more 'realism' in the magic spells... ...

A big hunk of rock just crashed onto your head and you can still party on. Wow! Amazing! It should have been renamed, "Fiery Fluffball".
