I wanna edit movie files to cut out certain pieces. How would I go about doing this?

Any video editing program will do. Iīm pretty sure thatīs the only way. Dunno about the shareware ones.. :/

Which video editing programs? I'm sorry, but I really am clueless on this subject. ;)

I donīt really know any share/freeware program that lets you edit videos. At school, we only use professional ones which cost birds.

You could search from tucows.com in case there would be some. Hmm.. was there some program which came with windows? At least with xp.

ME, and both XP Home and Pro come with Windows Movie Maker. I'm not sure how good it is comparitively, but I was able to slice and dice some home flicks with relative easy.

If you have Windows moviemaker, import video file you want to edit (or several files) plays the player marker for the preview window where you want to cut the movie. Choose the icon called part or cut, not sure how it is in the english version...

Then there will be two different files that you can drag to the work area, the long strip and place them in order.

If you want to make niftier changes you need better programs with more options. I donīt know of any freeware/shareware program but you can probably download a demo of Adobe Premiere, a decent program for movie editing. Adobe After effects is really good in making special effects.

If you have a digital camcorder you might want to buy a bundled graphics card with software to it. There are alot of different version out there. Everything from the drag and driop rough cut to the really advanced (and expansive) that can split the sound into different channels, fadings, special filters etc etc..

You can go and look for demos at www.download.com or at www.versiontracker.com . Choose the right section and see if you can find something. www.Adobe.com is a good site to visit since they have some easy tutorials at their site for the programs if you download a demo.

Good luck
