Normally one should not even trust the date on the top of the sun newspaper but I think this story carries some truth as far as I can tell from other sources. But it begs the question as to why we are wasting resources looking at Iraq instead of protecting ourselves from the "clear and present danger" of terroism?

Maybe because their sponsors live there ? Great job from Italy's finest, i hope they lock em up and throw away the key.

As far as i can tell, those 5 weren't planning anything in London, but only against Nato bases, churches and italian objectives. The news here didn't mention London or any UK target. This is strange, though, because Italy is thought to be only a logistic base for terrorists to hit in other parts of Europe - which has been true so far since most of the terrorist groups which have been caught since 9/11 were just "supporters" which provided weapons, explosives etc.
As to locking them up and melting the key, I don't think it will be the case, since italian laws, like those of most western countries are far too lax against terrorism. Special laws are still a work in progress - italian parliament tends to be annoyingly slow.

Do we care if they do it or not? Saddam is a threat, and must be removed. Well, disarmed, which means removed, since he won't comply.

Remember that even the Arab world (somewhat reluctantly) helped with punishing Saddams aggression against Kuwait and would (somewhat reluctantly) agree to punish again if found guilty of currant terrorism. But where is the proof?

Proof of what that he has weapons of mass distruction? He used them against iran and his people, I don't think he was simply trying a creative method of getting rid of theose weapons once and for all.
Where are the weapons? Somewhere around. It doesn't take much to hide let's say 50 trucks of sarin gas in a desert that big. They were able to hide the scuds during Desert Storm with hundreds of planes flying over Iraq (and mind, scuds are pretty noticeable) - they won't have trouble hiding normal trucks. Hans Blixen himself said that even a shallow inspection would take an year or so...
Anyway, they found empty shells - there is no purpose to keep artillery shells empty unless you want to fit a "special" warhead. That's the most they will ever find, in my opinion. Unless of course the attack takes place - then we will see the proofs used against us, be sure.

As to the better way than war, I really think that the diplomacy game works if all the players play with the same rules. You can convince a democratic country with diplomacy, not Saddam.
