Does anyone know what these problems are? They only started popping up recently and I want to know whether there is some way to fix them.
1)My PC keeps rebooting by itself. Sometimes it has to reboot about 3 times before it actually turns on, which disturbs me. 2)At startup (that is, when I enter Windows) two messages pop up. The first one is: Unhandled exception: c0000005 At address: 100016b8 That appears in a box and I can click OK. The other message is: PgMonitr.exe has caused errors and will be closed by Windows. An error log is being created. Now I don't know what that program is, but it is always appearing at startup, and I would like to know if I need to fix something to get rid of these messages. I have Windows 2k, if that plays any role. |
Check your startup group and see what is there.
If it is not listed there then try the following ****AT YOUR OWN RISK**** Once you have gotten a stable boot, go to Start => Run and enter Regedit This will open the registry editor. BE VERY CAREFUL IN HERE!! As if you delete or change the worng thing your system will not boot without a reinstall of the OS. Click on find and enter the name of the offending program (PgMonitr.exe) If you find it listed under a key called 'Run', you can get to 'Run' directly by expanding the following folders: HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Run If PGMonitr.exe is listed under 'Run' then right click the (Default) entry and remove PGMonitr.exe Good luck! |

The multiple reboots sounds like a power supply prob....depending on how far it is getting before the reboots occur.

Goto Start->Run; type msconfig. You should be able to see everything that gets started on your system. DO NOT change anything unless you are familiar with your system. You can render it unbootable. Dito on the RegEdit.
Goto www.symantec.com and run their securtiy and virus scans. Then download Ad Aware and run it. [ 01-14-2003, 02:26 PM: Message edited by: Night Stalker ] |
I will expand on the msconfig. Click start go ro run, type in msconfig. Hit Enter. Of course this cant be done if you are using Windows 98SE or earlier. It only comes with Windows ME or XP.
On the General tab choose "Selective Startup." Now go to the Startup tab. Uncheck the box for PgMonitr.exe. Also uncheck any boxes that might have SaveNow (spyware) and Webhancer (also spyware.) Click Apply and OK. Youll be asked to reboot. Do so. Go to www.tucows.com and get a program called AdAware. Run a full scan on your computer with it. When it finishes delete anything it finds. It sounds like you're getting an address conflict in your IRQ slots. Magik may very well be right in that your power supply is going bad. Easily fixed. Get a new one. Its that or you'll have to format. If you do end up having to format see if your disk manager has a Zero Fill command. Its best to wipe it clean rather than simply format. |
