Hi! Can anyone help me out?
My CD drive on my platop is broken and I want a DVD player for my computer. Don't wanna any re-write stuff just a DVD reader. So i'm in the UK and am faced with 3 options... i just have a few questions about them: 1/ Getting it fixed and upgraded properly. (expensive). 2/ Buying an external DVD player (hard to find one that is cheap) 3/ If I buy an internal one and a box(usb) that i cna plug it into, is that alright? Do I need a power supply? Thanks! |
Running an internal drive externaly is possible, but not recommended. It would probably die quite quickly. For a HDD you can buy a USB enclosure that will let you run it safely, but Ive never seen one for CD/DVD drives. Not that Ive looked for one.
The USB bus dosent carry a whole lot of power, so you will likely need a seperate power supply, but the enclosure will come with one of those. I myself would get one from your laptop manufacturer, just because I hate carting around extra hardware when I dont need to. |
