Ok one of the first things I did in my game before doing any quests was going to pick up Valygar,once I found out where he was from his house in the docks district.I wanted him as a scout and thought he would be really useful as a backstaber and archer.The problem is that I had a really difficult fight at the top of the temple district sewers with a group of evil adventurers who wanted my money, I managed to beat them after many reloads but the thing is I found out during this fight that Valygar can't backstab!It said on the screen "weapon not suitable for backstab".I'm pretty sure that the stalker class can backstab but Valygars weapon is a katana and I've also backstabed with Yoshimo who has a Katana!So my question is why can't valygar backstab with that weapon?Is it just this particular katana or can Valygar not backstab with any katana?He has the katana he comes with at the start btw.If he can't backstab with Katanas that will really suck because he has profecencies in only that spears and long bows.

Stalker can't backstab...it's a ranger (subclass fighter) kit.

Only thief subclasses can backstab: Thief, Assassin, Bounty Hunter, and Swashbuckler (and Swashbuckler's don't get a backstab multiplier, so they're not that good for it either.)

It says in the game instructions under special abilites for a stalker that they can "backstab like a thief".

Stalkers can backstab, it is one of their abilities. x3 modifier, IIRC.

Have you patched your game yet? This is a known bug. If you already have the official patch, inform me, and I will direct you to Baldurdash. Remember, only go to Baldurdash after you have patched your game using the official patch.

Yes I patched my game with the offical bioware TOB patch.

Go to the following link and download the ToB Fixpack v1.12. It should resolve your bugs.
