I just want to warn all of you out there that there is an EVIL program out there called "explorer browser" from a company called "Xupiter"that can infect your internet explorer and resist every attempt at removal. I was Infected with this horrid program on friday night and I have spent the last 3 days trying to rid myself of it. It disguised itself as one of the language updates for windows that make written Japanese langage characters show up propperly on web pages. After installing itself it disabled my pop up killer and Internet explorer. It replaced IE with itself and made IE look like a gift from god by comparison. I tried uninstaling it,deleting its host file(which was write protected),deleteing its registry keys, and going into IE and trying to restore it to its original state. All of thoes things failed me, even after I unprotected its host file and was finaly able to completely delete it. After trying a fruitless attempt at useing my comps search function to find files named "Xupiter" or "explorer browser" I was forced to reformat. I wonder if this program would classify as a virus since it was disguised as something else and was in the end , unkillable?

Hmmmm - they seem they be fairly upfront about what they do and even supply an uninstaller. Here is the link to their help page.

Isn't spyware grand?
Sorry to hear you got taken like that but you said yes to the installer window.. "You could have downloaded and installed one of our many software applications. In the terms and conditions of any of our software products it is clearly stated that we grant you a free license to use the software and by installing the software on your computer you agree to use our search services in your web browser. Any and all changes made to your system are clearly stated in the terms and conditions." Next time if you need Japanese script get the one from the microsoft website [ 12-02-2002, 06:52 AM: Message edited by: Wurm ] |
If the uninstaller doesn't work check the adaware site, if their anti-spyware software can't automatically remove it they'll often at least have instructions for manual removal.

That reminds me, ever since i formatted my harddrive, i'm online without a firewall AND without a good anti virus program. That leaves me kinda vulnerable, better install that TODAY.
