Anyone here know how to convert a jpeg. image into a bitmap image?
|
The only way that I knew of was to open a graphics program, load the image and click "save as" and instead of choosing to save it as a jpeg you save it as a bitmap. Bear in mind that I learnt that at high school about six years ago so I dunno whether it still works like that :D

That's the way I do it, too, Attalus.

Thanks, Dunda and Ronn. It wouldn't work by "Save as.." but I copied and pasted it.

Well, the cheap@$$ way to do it is to right-click the image and save it "set as background". That automatically saves it as a .BMP file in your Internet Explorer Wallpaper location. On Windows XP that would be located in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer , and will probably be saved as "Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp". Just rename the file to whatever you want, then copy and paste it. You need no graphic package to do that. Note that this only works going from JPG or GIF to BMP, and not the other way around.

Okay, Saz, I did that, but was unable to copy the file or move it. (I have Windows ME.)

Bitmaps should be avoided at all costs if possible. Their only advantage is that they're uncompressed so are quick to execute on in code.
A JPG on low compression can provide just as good quality (as far as the human eye can see) and still saves loads of space. Why you tryina convert to bmp? |
Because I am converting Web pictures to Icewind Dale II Portraits, and they won't accept jpeg. files. ;)
