I just picked up the combined pack, including the expansion, this weekend. So far I really like this game. StarCraft, but cooler - cause of my love for Star Wars. Anyone else have thoughts on it? I admit, I'm just getting started.

Should have known you would be a RTS type of guy ;) Ahh well. I'm looking for a good turn based strategy game, does this game have a turnbased mode?

No, I don't think it does. You can assign orders while it's paused, though.

I'm not big on RTS myself - which is 1/2 of the reason behind my love affair with BG and the space bar pause. I only play RTS against the computer - I simply can't compete with online munchkin button-beaters.

But, with the one-button pause this game has, I find it quite playable. You can of course assign hotkey buttons as you please.

It's made with the Age of Empire engine. I have the game too, I like it.

Not as fun as Civilisation III in my opinion, but still very fun.

Yeah, but CIV III is just a different game. I love all the civ games. I remember when they first came out - I was absolutely amazed you could put so much into a game. They've stayed relatively the same since. Very little difference between CIV II and III. Except diplomacy options - CIV III rocks for that.

Civilisation has so much replay value. Every game is different.

I remember the good old cheesy days of Civilisation I. I would start by building the great wall. And the other country where obligated to make peace with me all the time. So I sent my troop in front of an ennemy city, attack and conquer it, then make peace with the country. I conquered the world thanks to this "cheat".

It's not as fun as doing a legit game, but it sure was funny to do a couple of time.

Yep I also really liked the Civ products. I have Civ II and III and even the non-civ..Civ Call to Power. Hmm 1 button pause and you can give orders while paused...I may have to check this. But TL I am with ya when it comes to the button beater munchkins.

The thing I don't get about RTS, is that they have these fabulous graphics that you never have time to watch because the action is fast and furious :(

Well, to put a fair warning out, Galactic Battlegrounds is like StarCraft, with more buildings, more resources, more upgrades, more units, more "teams," and faster builders. Without the pause it's just too much. I'm going to have to read up on auto-commands and string-commands.

Thanks guy, I will probably skip it abd Play Civ III again

Actually, it's just like Age of Empire II, with starcraft skin. As an example, the priest where replaced by Jedi Master, and can still convert enemy units. The biggest difference, is that Galactics Battlegroung has Aircraft. The units have been rebalanced, too. Jedi Master are a LOT more powerfull than the old priest. ;)

So if you like one, you will like the other.
