hey im on chapter three right now
but when i was doing the circus quest o so long ago i refused to give that ogre the sword she requested and then she turned hostile on me and i killed her
later on i was looking at a walkthrough and realized it was aerie and i was wondering if im really missing out on something without her
i would also like to know what she is...mage/theif/whatever?
its just killing me knowing that i missed out on a character i could of been using

tell me if she would fit in my party it consists of:
Witherlain-Assasian
Minsc
Edwin
Jan
Vicionia(even tho right now i have cernd cuz of the trademeet quest)
And Gay Anomen

IMHO, yes Aerie, the Avariel Mage/Cleric, is a great NPC. She is really good at spellcasting, and she doesnt have too many bad interactions with your NPCs. ;)

But your party looks very well-balanced as it is, so I suggest just leaving it as it is, without taking Aerie in it.

yes, Areie is a good NPC, she can cast both mage and priest spells and can be very useful if you need to ressurect people. However, you already have two mages in Jan and Edwin and two Cleric's in Anomen and Viconia and you have yourself and Minsc as fighters with your choice of secondary. You are very well covered magically and that is all that Aeire does, so you are not missing out unless you wanted to romance her.

YUCK!

I hate Aerie, to weak.

For a good party I can see why she would be wanted, but heres the solution!! Since the game lacks Mage NPCS (ala Edwin) Aeria woudl seem a tasty little morsal, but considering Magic isn't in huge need before you go into the Underdark SPOLIER SPOILER(at which you'll have Imoen) then all you need is good priest spells

For an evil party the Vic Edwin mix can be lethal. Also consider the fact that you'll have more bodys to take its, instead of one character you have to keep safe.

Also, Aeries massive spell safe might look nice, but the most likely scenario is that most of those spells will only be needed in one or two quests. But, if you are new, Aeria is great to start off with.

Aerie is the second best spell caster in the game and a funny romance. You should go for her.

Witherlain. You have a serious problem with that party. Make sure that you make backup saves all the time 'cos you are gonna need it. Trust me.

andrewas 06-17-2002 05:19 PM

Jan is correct, that party wil cause problems sooner or later.

I wont spoil the surprise.

ON Aerie, she is exellent if and only if you use her correctly - as a backup to your other magic users. It is possible to tank her up, but that many items on one character is a waste so dont bother.

Xero279 06-17-2002 05:29 PM

shes good with the script that makes her stay back and heal your party during battle plus she has access to every type of spell so i like her.

Maxamus 06-17-2002 08:14 PM

I'm sorry I just don't like her. But then again ym skills are so...advanced, lol j/k

Actually, you don't need to add Cernd to do the Trademeet quest (you lose out on a little xp, but not too much). It's hilarious; I added Cernd, and he had problems fighting the boss of that quest. As soon as I DIDN't add him, he whipped her butt easily. Go figure. I guess I just need to invite him to show up (without adding him) when I go fight Kangaxx or the Twisted Rune. :D

Your party is well-balanced, but any time you mix good and evil you are in for some fireworks. Just warning you. I'm doing it now (one evil, two good) in my neutral party, but this is because I finished the game and know which ones will lose it with one another. Jan is correct; you are in for some REAL fun later. However, this also leads to some interesting interactions, so as long as you quick-save regularly (like every few minutes, especially later in the game) you should be fine.

Aerie was in the party that I finished the game with, and she was absolutely solid. Because she backs up both cleric and mage, this allows you to get by with only one of each other than her. This then takes up 3 party slots, and allows you to add two fighter-types other than you. Or you can add another mage (I was an archer my first time through, so I kept Nalia and Imoen both on for mage firepower). I believe in playing with 1 1/2 (at least) in both cleric and mage, so she fills the 1/2 slot perfectly. However, you have to understand one thing; you must give her all of the good missle and spell defence items in the game to keep her alive in some cases. In tough magical fights, an area effect like Horrid Wilting can take her out. She was the one I game the staff of the magi and Vecna's robe to (staff to keep her invisible thus safe, and robe because it speeds up ALL spells of person, cleric and mage both). If you use her right, and pay attention to her location and threat level in each fight, you'll be fine with her. Fail in that, and you'll be bringing her back to life pretty quick (Edwin can have the same problem, due to low stats).

I have to concur with Aerie...I've always taken her along in a "good" party. Her main faults are her naivity and her whining (both which change as her character develops) and she's the only NPC who has that high Wisdom and Intelligence naturally...others have higher Wisdom, or Intelligence, but not both.

Some have complained that she can't learn as many mage spells with INT 16...just have her quaff a potion of Genius before scribing and she should have no problem.

Her benefits far outweigh her faults. As has been said, the ability to cast both Mage and Priest spells make her a spellcaster extraordinaire, and even though it takes her longer to level, she's great for backup low- and mid-level spells. The only NPC she absolutely cannot tolerate is Korgan; otherwise she's at least tolerant of everyone else, even Viconia (surprise, surprise!)

If as others here have said she is "weak", it's only because she's not been utilized appropriately. Keep her in the rear and give her a good sling. If you have the "Bonus Merchants" add-in, give her the Sling of Everard +5 from the guy in the Copper Coronet...she's deadly with that thing; can take down Adamantium Golems at a distance by herself.

Cheers,
-Sazerac
