What was the second American party system, and what was significant about it? I've gone through my book several times, looked through all the notecards at APStudent.com, and still cannot find this. Any immediate help would be appreciated.

Oh, also, I am not referring to the Whig party formation, but the party system..

Do you mean the Federalists and the Democratic Republicans?

No, the Democrats and National Republicans/Whigs.

do you just mean the emergence of the repulicans after the gap betweent the end of the federalists?

Nanobyte 11-14-2002 12:01 AM

No, the emergence of the Democrats and Whigs in the 1820-1840s. I'm not asking about the Republicans.

I think but am not sure, it went Federalists, Democrat, Democratic Republicans, Warhawks, Whigs....at about the same time as the whigs I think the republicans were formed...but I don't have my notes here at work, we went over this stuff a couple of weeks ago...maybe a month.
