I have been trying unsuccessfully to install BG2. I keep getting prompted for CD5. I have tried all solutions offered and nothing has worked. I think perhaps the date is being sent too fast for my computer, so I was wondering if someone could tell me how to change the Read/Write speed of my CD Rom drive. Thanks a lot!

I don't think thats the answer, someone had that problem sometime ago but I don't remember hwo or who it was fixxed

But here is how you change the speed of the cd drive.
1. Rightclick on the my computer icon and go to Properties
2. Press the file system button
3. Go to the cd rom tab
4. Change the "Read-ahead Optimization" slider.

This is at least how you do it in win 98... hope it's not diffrent on yours...

If all else fails, try copying all the files from all the CDs onto hard drive, and run setup from there.

That's another problem. Not only will it take 173 minutes or just over three hours to copy CD3 to the hard drive, halfway through it says it cannot read the source file and quits. Are my game discs broken or something?
BTW, Thanks for the suggestions, but nothing has worked so far...

Maybe it's the protection against copying. Or can others copy it to their hd?

No that sounds as a CD error. Itīs trying to read a file on the CD but it canīt get to it. Do you have two CD drives pcgiant? Try the other one in that case. The "Insert Disc 5" problem is a direct consequence of this. Your CD-ROM canīt read one or more importnatn files from one of the CDs and therefore assumes those files will be on CD5.

Bg2 dosent even have basic TOC protections, it can be copied normaly.

Sounds like a dud disc to me.If its a small file it dies on, I might be able to email a copy, so try copying the rest of them over.

I do have two CD drives, and I have tried installing from either one or the other about 10 times each.

It's no particular file that causes it, it seems to be random (every time I send it to my hard drive a different part fails to paste.)

I don't know why the game was released if it is so buggy!

Read what they have to say at the Bioware site about this issue...

Dirty lens then. It can happen like this - the disc lines up *slightly* differently, so you get different files. It cant be BG2 problems if the disc itself is unreadable.

Try copying each file one by one. If it fails randomly, you should be able to get the lot eventualy.
