There I am watching the Chicago White Sox against the Minnesota Twins when I hear the building crack, then a thump then my chair starts to move!!

But it's okay - an English earth tremor is more restrained than most! :D

Yeah, you guys are lucky when it comes to natural disasters....I heard that something like 2 people in the last 800 years have been killed by tornadoes. I mean, 2 years ago we had a big one an hour's drive away that killed a bunch. Earthquakes are worse though...glad I've never had to experience one.

I was in Japan 2 years ago. I was sitting on a sofa in the hotel lobby waiting for a colleague when I distinctly felt the sofa shake for about a second or two. That really put a scare in me. The rest of the people (all locals) went on as if they didn't feel a thing.

I read somewhere that Japan is the most earthquake-prone country in the world. It experiences tremors everyday.

It appears there have never been any earthquakes here in Singapore. And I certainly hope there will never be, either.

hehe...I'd make a comment on the 'earth moving' but we all know baseball isn't half that stimulating! ;) :D

Hiya Donut. Sounds like just a little hiccup of a quake. We used to get those frequently in Idaho. They keep you on your toes. :D

Erm...although, since you were watching the Twin's vs the Sox, I can't imagine how you managed to stay awake long enough to feel the quake. YAAAAAWWWWWWNNNNNN!!!!! HEHE

Didnt feel it here in middlesbrough :(
Wasnt it over manchester way?

Horatio 09-23-2002 11:30 AM

I felt it. But by the time it reached London is was VERY slight. My coffee just shuddered a bit.
The quake came from the midlands (I think) all the way down to London. I saw it on the news.
I have experianced MUCH worse. In Spain there was a severe shake, but I was in Japan and there was a huge tremor when I was in a resturaunt. My plate smashed on the ground and a waiter dropped the huge tray of drinks he was carrying. Like Hayashi said, the locals just ignore it, but there was a French woman there who got up and screamed.
