It has occurred to me today that human life in this World is not worth a hell of a lot:

Israel & Palestine.
New York last year.
Afghanistan.
Soon in Iraq.

These are only the most covered areas at the moment and there are many, many more. It's always been like this I guess..I just wish it weren't.

I can understand that. It sometimes feels that way. But look at all the ways that people MAKE human life worthwhile. Incredible acts of charity like Mother Theresa. New York last year, though terrible banded together many people.

I remember hearing of a story in New Brunswick or Nova Scotia, where all the northern trans-Atlantic flights were grounded to on 9/11. All the local people took in foreigners, some of whom didn't even speak their language, for up to a week in their homes. They left with new bonds, and they just recently were reunited on September 11, 2002.

Just thought I would share that.

Mark, I would not normally get involved in this, but here is my 2c

Remember, everyone is someone's son or daughter. They may have been conceived in love or hate, been raised in poverty or privilege, but they all had the capacity to be a force for good or evil.

When we call for the death of another human being we are calling for the diminution of the totality of humankind. From evil we learn just how much better we must be.

Let us all strive to be better.

It never has been....look back through the ages...its always been someone somewhere as long as man has been around. I understand what an impact it can have on us here in America though...the ground under our feet has been safe for over 200 years and now we have cause to think otherwise and consider the possibilities.
As I see it, it was bound to happen sooner or later but I am not going to let it depress me. On the contrary...I can't control the choices other people make to be evil but I don't have to join them either...I'll go about my life making every minute I have to live as good as it possibly can be for myself and those whose paths I cross.
*hugs* Mark!

Has it ever occured to anti-war zealots that some people might actually be glad and proud to die for the country/homeland/cause/whatever.

Dont get me wrong, I am not saying a inoccent jew or palastinien walking down the street getting killed is a good thing. Nor am I saying that everyone should die for a country/homeland/cause/whatever.

But do you really think the Tali Ban members that got killed in Afghanatan wear afraid and shamed to die?

I think not.

Same with most the other things you mentioned.

So, Peace On Earth and Good Will Toward Men is out of the question?

Unfortunatly to secure peace, one must prepare for war.

About dying for one's country/beliefs/ect ...

"No one ever won a war by dying for their country. You win by making the other poor b@$!@*ds die for theirs!!" ~ GEN George S Patton

So while their tactics are effective, terrorists fight a war of attrition that, unless they can keep their recruiting #s up, they will eventually loose. They are not fighting for their homes. One common worker defending his/her home is worth 10 professional soldiers. Empty rhetoric eventually runs out. (Big reason why we got our butts handed to us in a small Southeastern Asian backwater ...)

Now if only everyone could learn to play nicely in their own backyards, and not keep tossing the ball (hand grenade) over the fence .... things would be much better.

Realisticly, yes it is. There will always be loss of human life. There will always be war, and there will always misery.

Not the most optomistic look at life but its true.

If I remember correctly Moni, you wear a christain? You even posted a thread on micarals a long while ago. You told a story about walking to the hosptial with a few broken ribs I think it included, and had a relgious meaning to it. Maybe it wanst you, but if it was, you should have learned that there will always be war on earth. Well most the time anyway.
