Woke up with a bit of a hangover at 7 am. 78 people died in the worst ever air show accident yesterday in the Ukraine, there is another famine in Southern Africa, more trouble in the Middle East.

BUT....................... the radio announced that the fifth miner that had been trapped in a Pennsylvania mine for three days had been brought to safety and the other four were still alive. I was out of bed like a shot to watch the rescue live on TV. I had written them off after no sound since thursday.

The downside is that I await George Bush's news conference on the rescue!

The latest on the AP has all nine rescued. :D

SOMERSET, Pa. (July 28) - Rescue workers on Sunday pulled all nine miners one-by-one from the watery, 240-foot-deep shaft where they had been trapped for three days, a jubilant reward for an effort fraught with one gut-wrenching setback after another.

The first words from the miners were blunt. ``What took you so long?'' one of the miners asked, according to a rescuer.

Ron Svonavec, of Somerset, was at the top of the rescue shaft when contact was first made. He said one of them said, ``There's nine men ready to get the hell out of here. We need some chew.''

"We need some chew" Yeah, they are all OK.
:D

Well, air show.

It was a Sukhoi Su-27, russian plane, kicks ass. (I only have pics of the Su-47 on PC, so cannot upload and show!).

Ok, it entered a loop, and basically didn't pull up in time.

It landed in the crowd, erupting in flames, killing 83. The crowd were close to the flying area, but were meant to be safe. Unfortunately, when the plane tried pulling up, crew ejected, leaving the plane to become unstable, and it headed to the ground where it rolled and exploded.

That's horrible...I feel so sorry for the families of the people that died as well, y'know?

Donut, I thought you would be eager to hear that Bush is "thrilled" about the success of the rescues. ;)
Of course this came from a White House Spokesman and not the president himself so how are we to really know until he actually addresses the public on the issue? ;)

About the air show...my sympathy goes out to those who lost their loved ones.
You'd think, with the history of air show accidents that result in numerous deaths that people would learn to keep a safe distance.

No one has any comments on the famine or the trouble in the middle east?!
