Welcome DUO, you will find that we all have excellent hearing here at IW. A good mage is a lvl 40 mage with 25 INT & WIS and all wizard spells learned. Some spell triggers, contingencies and some scrolls of protection from magic and undead will do wonders.

or... if you're feeling paticuly daring, try a multiclass 40-40 Mage, fighter. My personal favoirate.
