Is there any way to protect your characters from level draining? Perhaps potions or spells? I do have talisman of power or something, which makes me immune, but the problem is, only one non-thief and non-fighter can wear it

I always carry some of that scrolls that recover ur char to the right level, and my cleric always has the spell of recharge ready... but i'm not sure if there's too many items that can protect you from that, i'm not sure but there seems to be a weapon that can do that, ill take a look if i find something i'll post back here.

Yes, you might want to keep some restoration scrolls in inventory though they are expensive. If you have clerics in your party they can memorize level 4 restoration and negative plane protection which protects from level drain. Just remember that nagative plane protection only lasts 5 rounds, so if the battles are prolonged you may need to be able to cast it more than once.

The Mace of Disruption, upgraded with Illithium Ore at Cromwell's, provides permanent immunity to level drain. Also, Undead Slayer paladins can't be level drained. Best bet when dealing with vampires is the shameless use of disposable allies, also known as "fodder", particularly as provided by Elemental Summoning, Monster Summoning, and Animate Dead spells.

I swear by Negative Plane Protection. 3 Tanks (one of which is my kensai/mage with robe of vecna) which attack and three clerics which cast NPP and can do that 2-3 times. just make sure your tanks are true killers. use improved haste if you cant get them dead in time.

And always cast defensive harmony, bless, chant, aid, resist fear, resist paralysis when you engage hardcore melee combat.

Also, Aran Linvail's Amulet of Power protects from level draining. Therefore, we have two items in SoA that give permanent immunity to level drain. The mace can be used by anybody, the amulet can be used only by mages and priests.

Almost--Thieves are out of luck, on both counts. Also, if your PC is a Thief, Bohdi will not let you work for her--she won't trust a Thief to work against a Thieves Guild. That's why I wish there was a MOD to have Cromwell forge a Holy Buckler of Amaunator (confers NPP), using any Buckler+1 and the completed Symbol of Amaunator from the Temple Ruins.

About the Amulet: It was intended to be usuable by Paladins and Rangers as well, since they can cast spells. This was overlooked, although you can find a patch that corrects it. In its original version, the Amulet is only wearable by: Mages, Sorcerers, Clerics, Druids, and Bards.

Although it doesn't protect from level drain, Azuredge (the throwing axe in the Copper Coronet) is a great distance weapon against the vamps...you can throw it at them and kill them with one blow before they get close to you. Keep them busy with fodder, and then stand back and keep pitching Azuredge at them.
