I am delighted to report that the EU voted 'yes' to labelling all foods with more than 0.5% GM content. This only the first phase, and I do hope that subsequent phases will go through without modification - there may be problems, due to the huge pro-GM, anti labelling lobbies, which include the whole biotech industry.

Looks like this could turn into a massive trade war with America. The US steel protectionism and farming subsidies will be nothing to this one!

I await developments with interest, and some anxiety. Well, I won't be just sitting on my fanny awaiting developments. I shall be out there doing my bit, ie. letters and lots of jumping up and down if necessary.

But HURRAH! anyway. It's a good start.

Unfortunately, most food producers will get around it by making the new labels, but getting the definitions changed. [img]graemlins/idontagreeatall.gif[/img] That's how they were able to sneak irradiated food into the marketplace.

It's a bit tougher to find, but we shop at organic-certified farm-to-markets. The farmers bring their stuff directly to these mom-and-pop stores, and we get them without the processing. :D It's interesting, organic, natural, stuff is not nearly as pretty, but it tastes so much better. GM = Genetically Modified - and while I don't often find myself agreeing with you Magik ole buddy, your last point is indeed cogent.
