He was found today in his hotel room in Las Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel. He apparently passed away from a heart attack.
This is the biggest blow to rock and roll since John Lennon was murdered.

I agree it is quite a blow, but I'd say since George Harrison died., actually. :(

I don't think it will help to debate who was the greatest loss. I'll just post the lyrics of two Who songs. the first is the song that I listened to in my last year in school and the second is one of the few songs written by Entwistle. There is a tribute to him on the TV at the moment and the music is superb!

Won't Get Fooled Again (When Donut wanted to change the world)

We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again

The change, it had to come
We knew it all along
We were liberated from the fold, that's all
And the world looks just the same
And history ain't changed
'Cause the banners, they are flown in the next war

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
No, no!

I'll move myself and my family aside
If we happen to be left half alive
I'll get all my papers and smile at the sky
Though I know that the hypnotized never lie
Do ya?

There's nothing in the streets
Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Are now parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again
Don't get fooled again
No, no!

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Meet the new boss
Same as the old boss

"Boris The Spider"

Look, he's crawling up my wall
Black and hairy, very small
Now he's up above my head
Hanging by a little thread

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Now he's dropped on to the floor
Heading for the bedroom door
Maybe he's as scared as me
Where's he gone now, I can't see

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

There he is wrapped in a ball
Doesn't seem to move at all
Perhaps he's dead, I'll just make sure
Pick this book up off the floor

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

Creepy, crawly
Creepy, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly
Creepy, creepy, crawly, crawly

He's come to a sticky end
Don't think he will ever mend
Never more will he crawl 'round
He's embedded in the ground

Boris the spider
Boris the spider

O_o

Well now that's a real shocker! and they were going to go on a world tour too!

Epona 06-29-2002 06:08 AM

Sad news indeed :(
Thanks for posting the lyrics Donut.

Madman-Rogovich 06-29-2002 12:24 PM

indeed a sad event

Thanks for the lyrics Donut. So you're an Arsenal fan AND a WHO fan - with such outstanding qualities like that I guess I should overlook the odd bout of Fosters foistering.

This is a great loss, I always thought he was a fantastic foil to the energy of Pete Townsend. That world tour was selling well too
:( .

Was just listening to 'cant explain'. That is such a great track.

Wynne 06-29-2002 07:19 PM

Oh, man... I know it was never the same since Keith Moon died, but what a shame that he's passed on now, too. :( What amazing music they all made together!

Earthdog 06-30-2002 02:13 AM

Very sad indeed. Hes considered by many to be the best bassist to ever play rock n roll. The man certainly had a talent that very few have ever come close to. Very few ever will.

Major bummer :(
