white mice to be exact [img]smile.gif[/img] (and they will not be used in lab experiments)

so do any of you guys have white mice? i know that they are cheap, easy to take care off... is there any problems with them? any suggestions and hints?

siberian hamsters are also good since they dont shed thier hair much...

I recomend Siberian Hamsters because they're cuter than lab rats... :/ but that's just me i suppose...

I had an albino rat once, funny animals. They don't get very old though, pity.

Only NOT let them go loose on the floor or they eat all cables that goes to your computer and stuff like that they LOOOVE to eat cables! lol
I my self have an "goldfish" and that is an quiet and cool "pet" haha :D

I would love to get those little turtles. The ones that are only about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. I used to have them when I was a kid.

That's it, my next pet will be those kind of turtles. Only trouble is that I haven't seen them at any pet stores for a long time. :(

Do you know how big a turtle can get? They get enormous and they live to a very long age, they smell and you cannot handle them because they can carry Salmonella (that is food poisoning for the uninitiated).

Think twice before getting a turtle or a terrapin. The tank gets filthy, they foul the water very quickly and they need special food, special ultra violet light or constant sunlight to bask.

I used to have four terrapins in a very large tank and they used to bask until a large heat lamp I placed over the tank. I also had a Persian Cat who used to sit on the shelf above the tank, and everytime the terrapins climbed up on the rock to sit under the lamp my cat would bat them off with her paw. The poor terrapins kept on trying though until one of them snapped at the cat. They have very hard beak like mouths and they hurt when they bite. She didn't do it again.

Sadly, I gave them away to my local reptile shop because they were far to big to keep in the house and it was too cold to put them in my pond.

Anyway, enjoy your pet when you get it. (Preferably without the tomato sauce!!!!!) Sorry couldn't resist....

Zidane, good advice.
I don't know much about reptiles other than they have very specialised needs and can easily become sick and die if not looked after correctly.

Same with parrots (which I have) - people think 'oh great, I'll get a talking bird' without realising that it will be like having a moody 2 year old child that will never grow up for the next 30-90 years (depending on species). One of my birds is a Senegal Parrot - I am his second home because his first owners couldn't handle him, he was bought by them on impulse. He was very nervous when I first got him, because above all else they need security, and he hadn't had any prior to me getting him. They are also damn expensive to buy and care for, whoever coined the phrase 'eats like a bird' didn't have a clue, they are little pigs.

I think mice, hamsters, and especially rats, make great pets - they aren't expensive or time consuming to keep, and can be very entertaining.
