ok what exactly is thief detect illusion ability? is it like true sight when activated... can it reveal invisible characters? how many points should i spend on it to be effective?

I've never been able to get it to work, but yes .. it is true sight IIRC.
You'll eventually meet an opponent using that ability, and it helped him quite nicely, cutting down poor edwin, who allways relies on Mirror Image :(
Some people have managed to turn this option on All the time, using a little bug. You select a script, which makes your thief detect Illusions, and then Dual-class him ( not sure it's done that way),
Your dual-classed character should keep detecting Illusions forever now

P.s. I saw someone posts it needs about 200 to become great

location of the character- spoiler Below :
( dont look down if you're not past chap. 4 yet)

He's a thief, you meet in the underdark .. once you get the first quest, outside Ust Natha .. there's a group of enemies awaiting you, their thied uses the ability.

Detect illusion works great. It dispels illusions such as mirror image, blur, shadow door, project image, simulacrum and so on. The more points you spend, the greater the illusion you can dispel. Generally 100 points spent in any theiving ability will work fine, but feel free to pile all of your remaining points in this ability to get it as high as you can.

In order to get this ability to work, you need to select the "detect traps" ability when facing an invisible/illusionary opponent in order to dispel it.

Hope this helps

Jim.

its a pretty good skill but like someone said you have to put a lot of points into and have detect traps on to detect the illusions.

I like to have Jan use the Thief(Adventurer) script: Detect Traps and Illusions, all the time. You have to tell him to do everything--even to attack enemies--but that's OK, you have to micro-manage your Mages anyway. I just love the idea of permanent True Sight.

I dont get it, whenever an opponent casts mirror/reflected image or such, i can always just attack the actual caster directly, what good is this spell anyone. IMO it's completely useless.
