I've already played BG2 through once, and in the selfish test, Minsc was the unfortunate NPC who got selected for the one way ticket to the afterlife if I chose the evil path. Needless to say, I didn't want to loose my stats, so he died. I raised him, and we went merrily on our way. I never droped to neutral evil for this. However-
In my SECOND game, he was again chosen(poor guy)and again I chose the evil path, but this time he got chunked. Even if I reloaded he still got chunked. I'm thinking this might have something to do with TOB, which I had recently installed at the time. Help is needed. and BTW, how does one get into spellhold if you don't have minsc or yoshimo in your party? I've taken to acting crazy to get in, but can you only do that with those two characters? Do you have to kill the mage if you don't? |
Hmm, sounds weird.
I am not sure, but yes, it might have something to do with ToB. Go back to the save, but this time choose another NPC. If this NPC also gets chunked, then yes, it's probably because of ToB. Download some patches from here, and see if this fixes it. ;) Now, if you are in Brynnlaw and want to get to Spellhold without having Yoshi or Minsc in your party, there are two ways to get there: 1. You can still make the Pirate Lord believe you're mad, by constantly saying you want to go there, or 2. You can find the Mage who can enter Spellhold. His house is somewhere north-east, IIRC, and there you will attack and kill him. He has a wardstone that'll get you to the Asylum. ;) |
you learn somthing new everyday, i never knew you could sucessfully feign insanity to get in, i normally kill the mage and get the spell book

I fake my way in, then kill the mage when I get back out ;)
Exxon, I can't reload because I completed that game a month ago! I only started wondering why it happened now, because I'm closely approaching hell in another game. I ended up choosing the good path and loosing my stats because the demon would _always_ choose Minsc, no matter what I did. I'll see what happens in my current game, but I think ToB's the problem as well. |
Indeed there are only two ways of getting into spellhold.. You can either make out you are mad to the Pirate Captain or, or, or..you cna just break in from the front. But hey, you gotta do the madness thing it rocks..

When a character dies in the selfishness test, he is permanently gone. That's normal. The reason you could still resurrect Minsc the first time is probably that you played on one of the two lowest difficulty settings, which prevents characters from getting 'chunked'.

to get into spellhold i just kill the mage, get the stone and the book, then convince the pirate lord im crazy gets alot more exp that way

Same here, nice to know I'm not the only one who likes free XP. :D

I was on core difficulty in both games. I never changed it.
